WARNING! I have recieved intellegence that Service pack 3 for Windows XP breaks this. I have only tested this with SP2, so if you are using SP3, make sure you know how to fix it if it goes wrong.
====================================== 25th May 2008 - Major Update ======================================
Re-made from the original, NOW WITH ORANGE!. That's right, I discovered that images actually have an internal palette that they read from, which overrides the default windows one - meaning i can have any colours I want now
So yes, overall quality improved a hundred times over with this update.
======================================
A boot screen image (also known as "boot skins" or simply "that loading screen thing"), themed around one of the best games I have ever played, Portal [link] .
The text is an adapted version of the text that can be found at [link] by typing the command "HELP".The original orange shiny mock-up can be found here: [link]
Zip File contains:
ApertureScience.bootskin Used for implamenting the bootskin with Stardock's popular program [link]
ApertureScience.bmp and ApertureScienceBar.bmp Some systems don't like Stardock's program, meaning the only solution is to manually edit NTOSKRNL32.EXE/NTOSKRNL.EXE yourself, so the images are right here, ready to be inserted (you will have to code the new bar location yourself). If in doubt, don't attempt this method - it can go horribly wrong if you mess it up.
This bootscreen has been tried and tested on both my laptop (Windows XP Pro, SP2) and desktop PC (Windows XP Home, SP2), using both methods. It is up to the individual user to ensure they do not break their system - once downloaded, I am not responsible for any action taken by you. I know it sounds harsh, but I don't want to be blamed for breaking more PC's that I already have
Aperture Science, the Aperture Science logo and GLaDOS are the property of Valve Software [link] - I simply loved the game enough to make this for the people who are still alive.
====================================== 06/01/2008 Changes: > Slightly different style for the box corners. > Fixed a few inconsistencies. > Changed Loading bar colour slightly so it's not as tough on the eye. > Changed red bits on the text to a darker yellow, red didn't work was well for shading as I'd hoped.
Hey I tried using this but it says it doesn't work with this version of Bootskin. How do I install this manually with that file you were talking about?
Ever going to fix this for SP3? I'd recommend "Courier New" font too, since that's the font GLaDOS uses.

Awesome! I love Portal but attention all people with XP SP3 don't use this cause I used it and the next time I turned on my comp it wouldn't start, I had to use a system restore to fix it. But if your on any other SP's go ahead cause this is awesome!!!
Ouch, I'll have to add that to the list of things SP3 breaks - I am not using it at all due to it causing my PC to bluescreen each time I booted it, this may actually be why
I'll stick a note in the main area about this too. Thanks for letting me know

BTW, I'm running Vista if that helps.

I don't squirm. I flail. Less restrictive, more expressive.
